Web 2.0

Web 2.0 Explained

Building a network of like-minded users and visitors is the basis of Web 2.0 applications on the web today, and social bookmarking is just one element of this growth. Web 2.0 sites are based on a few key principles that encourage interaction and sharing information with ease. By using tagging and breaking down information into keyword structures, everything is organized in a way that makes it easy to search and find specific information. From blogs to shopping sites, Web 2.0 has allowed new, media-rich applications to serve as platforms for all users. Sites such as Digg.com, StumbleUpon, LinkedIN, ThisNext, and dozens of others are

Getting Big Time Traffic

Given how simple it can be to get information in front of influential customers, it only makes sense to take the steps to get on the front page. The front page of social bookmarking sites offers an opportunity for increased page views, visitors, and increased exposure across multiple channels. Getting on the front page makes it easy for millions of visitors to get the ‘first impression’ with very little effort. Still, it’s not an easy process. Sites such as StumbleUpon.com, for example, can generate as much as 20,000 page views after just one showcase on the front page. But how is this possible? The first step in reaching the top ranks is to develop a creative headline.

Quick Tips To Get Lots Of Links Fast!

Asking for links is pretty easy. Getting people to link to you without asking would be even easier. There are ways to do it. One very successful method is to offer a freebie. Give away something for free on the Internet and word is going to get around very, very fast. You could write a short e-book, put together a little program or create a cool screensaver. Let people download what you’ve created for free and tell your audience. You should find that related sites start linking to you very quickly indeed. Why shouldn’t they?... they’re helping their users get something of value for nothing.

Finding Links For High Google Ranking

When it comes to choosing links, Google is perhaps the easiest search engine to understand: the higher the PageRank of the site, the more valuable the link. Your best strategy then is going to be to write to sites placed above you in Google’s search engine. You can take your keyword list, toss them into Google and receive an instant list of every site that can give you a valuable link. The problem, of course, is motivating those sites to link to you.

Swapping Links

The easiest way to get links to your site is to ask for them. It will cost you the time it takes to write an email... and space on your website for a reciprocal link. For some publishers, that return link can look like a price too high. A website created to sell plumbing services should only have information about the services the plumber provides. It doesn’t really need to have a page with links to sites about pipes and water supplies.

A Site Map for the Google Spider

Put simply, a site map is a web page that links to all other web pages on your site. On this page, you use your top 5 keywords and some simple HTML to make sure every single page on your site is linked together. Once done, you submit the site map to Google and it helps the Google spider (the computers that spider -– or crawl –- your web site for web pages) find every page on your site. If done correctly in correlation with everything else that we’ve looked at in this article, a site map will help bring you higher rankings in a shorter period of time. First thing’s first. If you’ve never seen a site map, then take a look at Apple’s site map. See how it’s simply a mass of plain-text links? Anyone can build a site map, however many forget this one important rule:

Designing your Site

Outline of Steps for SEO

We will look at some of these steps in more detail in later chapters, but here we will try and get an overview of some of the main factors involved.

Keywords and Domain Name

Engines use your domain name as a factor in the Search Engine Results Page (SERP). Now there is a lot of debate here, some think that branding for the viewers is more important than having a keyword in the URL, its google.com not searchengine.com! But, if you can combine both, then great! Notice my domain is www.compassdesigns.net. This will get me a little boost if someone searches for “web design”, but still retains some branding.

Build Your Own SEO Backlinks

Think Like A Web 2.0 Head

Social bookmarking offers many opportunities for marketers to collect information and learn about the behavior patterns of their customers, as well as firsthand reviews for particular brands and products. Social bookmarking sites are chock full of different perspectives and information, and all of this is stored in an easily searchable database.

Since like-minded individuals are creating tags on every item they post, it becomes easy to find relevant products and related subjects within each area of interest.

SEO Tips For Keyword

Right, now we need to do some research. We need to find out how many people are searching for our keywords and phrases. What we need now is a tool to tell us this information. The big gun here is something called Wordtracker. It costs just under $10 for a 3 day subscription, but the information it gives is worth it. If your site depends on traffic, then I recommend this tool. Two other free tools work also, but just don’t give the detail.

Start at the beginning: Site Goals

Why do you want traffic?

important is thinking about what your viewers will be gaining from visiting your site. The answer to this question will form the underpinnings of your search engine optimization efforts.

Submitting Your Site To The Top Search Engines

We all have to start somewhere and search engine optimization starts with submitting your site to the search systems. You can’t start moving it up until it’s in the system.

Fortunately, getting your site onto the search engines is the easy bit.
To put your site on Google, you don’t have to do a thing. Google’s crawlers will follow the links that lead to your site and include it in its listings anyway.
If you’re just starting out and you don’t have any links though, you can try to submit your site manually at www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl. Google won’t promise that they’ll list sites submitted in this way but it doescost anything and it certainly won’t do you any ha
Yahoo! is a little trickier. Again, if you already have lots of links pointing at your site, you should find that you’re listed automatically. If you don’t have links you can submit your URL at http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request. Like Google, thedon’t promise to list sites submitted manually but it’s worth a try.
