Submitting Your Site To The Top Search Engines

We all have to start somewhere and search engine optimization starts with submitting your site to the search systems. You can’t start moving it up until it’s in the system.

Fortunately, getting your site onto the search engines is the easy bit.
To put your site on Google, you don’t have to do a thing. Google’s crawlers will follow the links that lead to your site and include it in its listings anyway.
If you’re just starting out and you don’t have any links though, you can try to submit your site manually at www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl. Google won’t promise that they’ll list sites submitted in this way but it doescost anything and it certainly won’t do you any ha
Yahoo! is a little trickier. Again, if you already have lots of links pointing at your site, you should find that you’re listed automatically. If you don’t have links you can submit your URL at http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request. Like Google, thedon’t promise to list sites submitted manually but it’s worth a try.

Yahoo! does have a couple of other options though. The first is to use Search Submit Express. This won’t just make sure that you’re listed in the search results, it will also give you some handy stats about the keywords you’re using and the search terms that are getting you the most clicks.
But it costs: $49 for your first URL, $29 for the second and $10 for every URL after that. If that was all Yahoo! charged, it might be worth it. But you also have to pay between 15 and 30 cents for

every click you receive in the search results. For most AdSense publishers that’s just going to be too big a cut of the profits to make it worthwhile.
More effective is paying to be listed in Yahoo’s directory. This costs $299 and is a bit like paying to be listed in Yellow Pages. Even though few people may browse the directory, it can have a good effect on your rankings on other sites, including Google. If you don’t have any links and think it may take you some time to build them, it’s worth considering. You can do it at: https://ecom.yahoo.com/dir/submit/intro
To get your site indexed through Ask.com’s Teoma system, you just have to be online and linked. There’s no way to submit your site manually or pay to be included.
